While reading new health study, you may have heard about phytochemicals and their health benefits. So, what are they and what do they do?
Phytochemicals are substances found in plants. These chemicals are made of protecting and, probably, disease-preventing chemicals. Researchers have discovered more than 900 unusual phytochemicals in food, and they carry on discovering more daily. For instance, only one serving of vegetables includes more than 100 phytochemicals.
The appraisal of phytochemicals for their therapeutic uses began in 1980 at the National Cancer Institute Chemoprevention Program of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. For years, these chemicals have been well-known to look after plants. But the attention of using them to treat human ailment is somewhat new.
So what foods can give you the most of these supportive chemicals? Plant scientists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture studied the Noni plant and found that it is gifted with a larger number and array of health-giving phytochemicals than just about any plant recognized. The Noni berry plant is grown in tropical climates, like those in Polynesia, and has been used for years in Polynesian society to treat pain, inflammation, joint problems, immune system, headaches, indigestion and other diseases.
